UPDATE: I divided by 600,000 miles squared when it should have been 1,554,000 km squared. New date of entire gulf coverage with oil slick is October 3rd 2010. END UPDATE

Officials combating the spill estimate that the oil slick has a circumference of about 600 miles (about 970 kilometers),...
April 28th the circumference was 970km. That equals approx 75,000 km^2 in surface area.

On April 28th the oil slick area was 75,000 km^2.
That was 8 days after the event on April 20th 2010.
75,000 / 8 = 9,375 km^2
So it can be considered 9,375 km^2 a day.
The Gulf is about 1,554,000 km^2 in size.
1,554,000 / 9,375 = 166
It will take 166 days to cover the entire Gulf of Mexico.
166 days from April 20th 2010 is October 3rd 2010
Yup, 10-03-2010
That is still very bad!!!
