[quote:Anonymous Coward 429648:MV8xMDU5MjgxXzE2ODE5MTQ2XzIxQjAwNjk5] [quote:Anonymous Coward 963621] hadn't "they" just about decided that the weird stuff that goes on in the Bermuda Triangle, is a result of methane escaping from the ocean floor..that the methane rises to the surface and engulfs whatever it encounters, which then unbalances floating ships and even planes as it rises out of the water and into the air...this situation in the Gulf is one very frightening situation...I've worked to save oil slicked birds/animals...not a fun thing to do or see... I've only seen a few animals with "supposed" crude oil on them....where are all the DEAD SEA CRITTERS? Eighteen days...still WAITING? Not that I WANT this to happen, just getting more curious about the DELAY. And, will SOMEBODY explain WHY the crap leaking out is RED?! I've heard the following hypotheses... Dispersant Depth of leak Type of crude Sunlight refraction B.S.!!! Fossil fuels are BLACKISH....ever seen any RED COAL? BLACK GOLD, TEXAS TEA!
The red-orange rust color very likely has to do with the methane. When that big blue lake exploded in Africa from methane deposits underneath it, one of the things noticed about it afterwards was that the water was no longer blue but a "rust color".
UPDATE:
The effort to place a containment dome over a gushing wellhead was dealt a setback when a
large volume
of hydrates - crystals formed when gas combines with water - accumulated inside of the vessel
, BP's chief operating officer said Saturday.
The dome was moved off to the side of the wellhead and is resting on the seabed while crews work to overcome the challenge, Doug Settles said.
This confirms a large amount of Methane Hydrate is flooding from the well. This is bad, very, very bad. VERY BAD!!!
END UPDATE
It has been publically released today, Methane pocket is what caused the rig to explode.
Two things come to mind and both are bad news.
(1) It is a cover story. Which means the truth is serious enough to hide.
(2) The Methane Story is true. This means the spill has been releasing methane as well.
It would explain the Coast Guards ban over the Gulf of Mexico. Fears of sparking an explosion.
Methane is highly explosive in its gas state mixed with oxygen. The methane in the reserve is probably in a liquid state due to the pressures.
Just how much methane is being released? That is a crucial question. Enough can create an explosion so large it would shock the world. The size of the natural methane 'bomb' is only limited to how much methane can be released before it is ignited by lightning or other source of spark.
This is no laughing matter as scientists know methane explosions have happen before and can be very, very large. Thousands of times in magnitude of the largest nuclear bomb built by the Russians.
So, the big question is, just how much methane is being released. If the rig was destroyed by a methane pocket, how much methane is down there?
