Nature vs. Nature or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Gun

The 2nd Amendment is an acknowledgment and declaration of mans unalterable right to defend himself. It is of the utmost importance for all families to keep the tools to protect and defend themselves from the predators among us. Firearms are the most efficient modern device for this task; Physical advantages are not necessary to prevent or fend off a violent attack.

Few will argue that Man is not a predator by his very nature. Being proficient with firearms and other means of defense against this planets apex predator is logical. We can all agree, harm to our families and selves is generally something that should be prevented. The means to self defense is immutable. You would not request, much less expect, the leopard to surrender her claws, nor the rhinoceros his horn. Why then would you attempt to deny man his natural defense, tool building.

Homo Sapiens are tool makers. Our natural defense is to manipulate our environment to create advantage's where we have none. As a species, we have the same duty to protect ourselves as a bear does to protect her cubs. Humans, unlike the bear, are physically frail. Our intellect and ingenuity are our primary advantages.

To revoke a persons right to defense is to shackling them in the heavy irons of slavery. It is the same as taking a hacksaw to an elephants tusks or pliers to a dog's teeth. All creatures will resist, with every fiber of their being, the attempt to disarm them. So to ,will man, with all of the aggression and tenacity he can summon.

Man's predisposition towards violence is ingrained. The evidence of this is omnipresent in our society. One look through a paper or 30 minutes watching the news verifies mans unpredictable nature. Until the time that Homo Sapiens change ,fundamentally ,in nature, the implements of defense must forever be at our immediate disposal.

Many will attempt to argue the basic premise of natural order and selection. They will state man is 'more' than an animal. That he is basically 'Good' and his nature docile and altruistic. This denies the atavism that is present in all of humanity. Much to the contrary it has been shown, throughout history, that Man is never to be underestimated when threatened or provoked.

Nor can the argument be made that the 'cost' of his defense is too great to allow him to defend himself. That the price of the potential misuse of its power is to great to justify the possession of. 'Cost' and 'price' are subjective, only valid to the one's who are involved. People who have the capacity to defend themselves usually possess the capacity to weigh the possible outcomes of resistance, or supplication, to an aggressor. Given a choice they will, almost unanimously, chose the one which gives them the highest probability of survival, both in the immediate and foreseeable future.

The 2nd Amendment was acknowledgment of the basic and inalienable right to freedom of choice and responsibility in matters pertaining to an individuals personal security, and the unrestricted means to achieve his decision. The Founder's understood human nature and the consequences of abdicating self-determination to a governing body. The belief that your own life is sacred and worth protecting is fundamentally human. To penalize, regulate, or oppress the individual's choice in personal defense is unconscionable at best, and open aggression, at worst.

Now comes the fun part, rational discourse on the reasoning behind the 2nd Amendment.
