It is well worth the read below find a excerpt that shows how the new gulf oil spill is so similar to the Exxon Valdez spill. This will be a nightmare. Please warn everybody about this huge problem.

There are others whom almost no one talks about, although unlike the birds, most of them are still alive. They are the people who scraped oil off the beaches, skimmed it off the top of the water, hosed it off rocks.* Workers who stood in the brown foam 18 hours a day, who came back to their sleeping barges with oil matted in their hair, ate sandwiches speckled with oil, steered boats through a brown hydrocarbon haze that looked like the smog from hell.

After that summer, some found oil traces in their lungs, in their blood cells, in the fatty tissue of their buttocks. They got treated for headaches, nausea, chemical burns and breathing problems, and went home. But some never got well.

“The doctors said stay away. Whatever you do, don’t go near the beach.”
June 2nd, 2010

Oil Spill Syndrome is just starting to get into the main stream news now. The fact that the workers are suing may be the best thing that could happen for public safety. If the army of lawyers down there catch on and think they can make money they will advertise oil spill syndrome and inadvertently get the word out. Please keep up the good work and spread the news of this emerging disease to all you know who may live near the oil spill, warn everybody who is thinking about volunteering to help with the clean up. Don’t take me word for it, read the news articles I have aggregated here, or search the web for the oil spill syndrome, oil spill sick, or oil spill air quality.

Allegations that the results of air and water quality tests were purposefully not released
June 2nd, 2010

At least we now have a criminal investigation taking place. Maybe the Department of Justice will get to the bottom of this and expose the health hazards that are just starting to come to light.

Despite accusations that both BP and the Obama administration have prevented media from reporting on the full extent of the spill and purposefully failed to release the results of air and water quality tests that would show the true health risks of crude oil and dispersants on workers, Holder assured the American people that his department would work diligently to gather facts and coordinate the government’s legal response. New memo shows oil spill workers saftey not adequate
June 1st, 2010

Sorry for not updating more often over the weekend. I was away from the computer. It seems that oil spill syndrome is still under main stream media’s radar. That will change soon. Please explore the site find the relevant info and spread the word to anybody who may be exposed. We need to keep people from falling ill. As an aside it seems google has delisted this site from its search engine. Any ideas as to why? maybe it is because of the ads? I need to pay for the site somehow. I may take them down to get us relisted.

A scathing Labor Department memo obtained by McClatchy Newspapersdescribed BP’s worker safety efforts as “not adequate.”

The memo said BP “has also not been forthcoming with basic, but critical, safety and health information on injuries and exposures.”

UPDATE:

This is just the beginning my friends. As you can see allegations of a cover up are starting. Be mindful of what you read in the next few weeks regarding oil spill syndrome and the constant denial from BP on the air quality and health problems. Wait until a storm pushes the vapours inland we could have thousand ill.

CNN is reporting that one of the workers has filed a temporary restraining order in federal court against BP. John Wunstell Jr., a commercial shrimper, wants the oil giant to give the workers masks and not harass those who publicly voice their health concerns. It also requests that BP refrain from “altering, testing or destroying clothing or any other evidence or potential evidence” when workers become ill. Source

Oil Spill Syndrome
May 30th, 2010

As you are all aware on April 20, 2010 the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling platform exploded. The explosion killed 11 platform workers and injured 17 others. The explosion lead to a gusher that originates from 5,000 feet (1,500 m) below the ocean surface. Estimates of the amount of oil being discharged range greatly. We now know that some fishermen hired by BP to clean up spill oil say they’ve become ill after being exposed to oil and dispersant without proper personal protective equipment. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Just yesterday 125 fishing boats working to clean up the oil were called back. Workers on three of the boats reported nausea, chest pain, and other problems. One worker was evacuated by air! Mobile health clinics are just now being set up for workers. Cases of Oil Spill Syndrome are getting more common and will continue to. People are going to rush to the gulf to help clean up the oil spill, just like the WTC volunteers, and they will get sick. People will have claims for Oil Spill Syndrome against BP for years to come.

“George Barisich, president of United Commercial Fisherman’s Association, called the official account of illnesses “a pack of lies,” and said at least nine fisherman were treated in hospital Wednesday, while dozens more have worked through sickness brought on by the clean-up operation.

“Mr Coast Guard, you’re lying. Mr NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), you’re lying. We’ve been warning since the beginning that this would make people sick,” Barisich told AFP”. Source

I hope the news warns people and BP provides the proper protective gear for people cleaning the oil spill. For more information peruse this sight. A lot of the links are helpful, I am going to aggregate all the news stories I can find. Feel free to spread this information with friends and relatives, the hope is to prevent more people from getting ill.

UPDATE

Already a number of fishermen and their crews have gotten sick from being exposed to the crude and its fumes. It’s important to note that this unprocessed crude contains poisonous gases and hydrocarbons such a benzene, which is highly toxic and a carcinogen.

The NewsJunkiePost.com was in the Gulf in early May and found that BP had provided very little training to some fishermen who were being sent out to lay boom and to clean the water. This alarmed environmentalists who are concerned that repeated exposure will lead to serious health problems.

NRDC’s Gina Solomon, a scientists and medical doctor, was in Louisiana to monitor the spill. She said that BP had provided some safety gear to fishermen, but not with respirators. The respirators were essential in this type of work considering the dangers of the crude’s fumes.

Alaskan fishermen who helped clean up the Exxon Valdez spill have also been keeping a close eye on the Gulf. Marylee Orr of the Louisiana Environmental Action Network told the NewsJunkiePost.com that some of these fishermen had contacted her with concerns that fishermen in the Gulf could be in danger.

According to Orr, many of the fishermen from the Exxon Valdez spill became really ill after the clean up. There were many cases of Leukemia and other cancers, and serious respiratory illnesses, and Orr says that the same thing may happen in the Gulf. Source

Obama administration refusing to release results of air and water quality tests: BP threatening to sack workers who try to turn up for clean-up duty wearing protective respirators
May 28th, 2010

Environmentalists and fishing groups in Louisiana say prolonged exposure to the oil, in the form of tiny airborne particles, as well as dispersants could be wreaking devastating damage on public health.

They also accuse BP of threatening to sack workers who try to turn up for clean-up duty wearing protective respirators, and the Obama administration of refusing to release results of air and water quality tests that would show the impact of crude oil and dispersants on the environment.

Wilma Subra, a chemist who has served as a consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency, said there was growing anecdotal evidence that locals were falling ill after exposure to tiny airborne particles of crude. Air quality data released earlier by the EPA suggested Read the rest of this entry »

UPDATE: Fishermen Hospitalized: BP Not Allowing Clean-Up Workers to Use Respirators
May 28th, 2010

The clean-up workers should be allowed to use respirators, but BP is not allowing them to use them.

Why?

According to Clint Guidry, president of the Louisiana Shrimp Association:

…..If you would do your research, the same situation occurred with Exxon Valdez over twenty years ago. It is a question of liability. The minute BP declares that there is a respiratory danger on the situation is the day that they let the door open for liability suits down the line. If they could have gotten away with covering this up, like they did in Alaska Valdez situation, like Exxon, they would not have to pay a penny for any kind of health-related claims….(source; democracy now)

The oil and chemicals are not only beginning to make the clean-up workers sick, but it will have long term health consequences for the people of the Gulf. SOURCE

Oil spill making workers sick
May 28th, 2010

Ugh the bad news keeps coming!

Oil spill making workers sick

May 27, 12:36 PMBrooklyn Health News Examiner

Sarah Fruchtnicht

Fishermen in the Gulf Coast region have been hired by BP to help clean up their oil spill. Now those fishermen report headaches, dizziness, nausea, and difficulty breathing after working near the oil and dispersant contaminated water. The spill itself put these fishermen out of work, and while scientists claim that the spill has now exceeded Exxon Valdez the future of fishing in the Gulf is now a big question mark. Adding insult to injury now their health is at risk.

Louisiana Representative Charlie Melancon (D) wants the federal government to open mobile clinics on the coast to address these ailments. BP would be expected to foot the bill, but the company has yet to respond to the request for financial assistance. More
