[quote:Anonymous Coward 979194:MV8xMDk3ODU3XzE3NTE1MTg0X0NGOUFDN0Q3] [quote:Anonymous Coward 1000166] Watch the Rachel Maddow clip of the same disaster in the Gulf in 1979...200 feet of water then.. It took them 9 months to stop the leak....(the same solutions that were tried in 1979 were tried in 2010 and they did not work the second time around...).The only thing that finally worked was a relief well..How long do you think it will take them to drill 2 relief wells in 5000 feet of water?? 9 months is going to be a lucky break if they can do it it that amount time.. The first relief well is already more than 13,000ft down the second 8,oooft.
if that's true how come it took the deep water horizon 7 years to drill the one that blew up the rig on April 20th? i remember reading something about them being on site and accident free for seven years so they were celebrating their safety record when the disaster occurred, i also remember an argument taking place between the wells lead engineer or toolman i think there called because someone described only as "the company man" was making them drain off the drilling fluid and replace it with seawater because they wanted to use the fluid on another project later a deckhand overheard a conversation between this lead engineer and some company official in Houston on a satellite phone screaming are you fucking happy now? are you fucking happy now? the rigs on fire
The evidence is growing stronger and stronger that there is substantial damage beneath the sea floor. Indeed, it appears that BP officials themselves have admitted to such damage. This has enormous impacts on both the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf, and the prospects for quickly stopping the leak this summer.
This summer is the next 3 months. This is optimistic.
When hurricane Alex rolls in, all time tables will be adjusted.
When this happens all bets are off.
