I had the same questions as yourself about how the drilling worked and whether a BOP existed anymore.  I read for hours about this very soon after it happened.  There was hardly any information then, but still enough left that hadn't been completely purged as it is now, for me to draw what I feel confident are the correct conclusions.  I also have expressed several times, with no impact on the popular consensis, that the wellhead, the BOP, the riser, and the rig have been gone since the blowout.  The only thing down there is a fractured seabed spewing oil.

However, I did read back in April that they can place a BOP on the rig itself (actually there are usually several), because there are usually several wells dug in the same area, OR the BOP can be placed on the seabed.  When it is placed on the seabed it is afixed to the wellhead, not the seafloor.

The BOP is designed to work to stop a blowout.  In other words it works BEFORE anything happens to PREVENT it from happening. Hence, Blow Out PREVENTER.

If the BOP fails and a blowout occurs, bye bye equipment.

There is so much force behind the blowout that everything is torn away and there is nothing but a crater left on the seafloor.

Awhile back there was what purported to be an old film showing the "Russians" detonating a nuclear bomb down the bore of a blown out gas well.

If you look at that film, you can see that the earth all around what WAS the well is roiling.  That is because the earth all around the blowout is fractured and the blown out gas well is spewing from multiple fractures in the vicinity.

That is what is happening here.  The earth all around the well bore is all fractured and oil is coming up everywhere in the vicinity.

That doesn't mean that a relief well can't stop this well from gushing.

It could....maybe....eventually.

But, it sure would freak people out more to know the truth so they invented bullshit stories and bullshit pictures to appease people.

That's what's really happening.

The BOP must be installed before the drilling begins.

At sea this BOP would HAVE TO BE on the RIG.

There would be no way of controlling the flow of oil without Well-head and its BOP.

If anyone believes that the BOP & Well are set on the seafloor first and are not securely fastened on the RIG before drilling, tell me how did BP fasten the BOP/Well on the sea floor before the drilling?

The BOP was on the RIG.

The question that arises now is, why is BP & the US government lying about the Well-head and BOP being cemented on the seafloor gushing out oil AS SEEN ON TV when the BOP/Well were destroyed with the RIG?
