Well, how do we know that we aren't a machine that thoughts simply flow through, like a program on a computer?

I'd say the proper way to philosophize about Descartes' statement is to put it thusly:  "I am, therefore I think."

Your signature line....about you writing about writing.  It reminds me of how we use our brain to research the brain/mind.  It takes a brain to examine a brain, especially our own.  doncha know....the snake swallowing its own tail.
