A Cold War-era nuclear bunker in Sweden will host some of WikiLeaks' servers, according to a report from Gizmodo.
The bunker is 98 feet underground in the Pionen White Mountains near Stockholm, Sweden. It was originally built as a bomb shelter in 1943, only to be turned into a full bunker in case of nuclear war during the 1970s. The facility is used by Swedish Internet hosting company Bahnhof.
Earlier this month, the Swedish Pirate Party, a political party dedicated to increasing privacy rights and reforming copyright laws, announced it has agreed to host and provide security for some of WikiLeaks' servers. Party officials said the move will make it more difficult for the U.S. government to pressure the Swedish authorities into taking action against WikiLeaks.
Protected by 30 meters of rock, 1.64-foot thick steel doors and outfitted with backup generators, the Bahnhof facility would appear to satisfy the physical security portion of that pledge.
