Original Message A huge explosion rocked San Bruno shortly after 6 p.m. today, sending up a fireball and plume of smoke that was visible for miles.

A San Bruno police dispatcher said she did not know what had exploded. Firefighters and police were on their way to the scene.

The crash spot, around Skyline Boulevard, is west of San Francisco International Airport. Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the agency hadno information on whether the fireball was from a plane crash.
