[quote:~Astral Hitchhiker~:MV8xMjEzMjIzXzE5NzIyNDkzXzE4MkZBMTQ4] [quote:Anonymous Coward 879048] I doubt any of the OP's post is true. The only way you can be called up to active duty is if you are in the reserves or the ready reserves. If you is in an active reserve unit, then it is plausible, but I seriously doubt he is in the ready reserves, for someone who has been discharged only remains on that list for around 6 years, not 21 years. This not necessarily true depending on the job you once held in the military. I have known 2 people in my life who held jobs in the missile silos during their military service and BOTH have been subject to recall at any point in time. One held a position of the highest clearance that exists strictly because he helped install the electronics and the other was trained to live in the silo command center alone and how to deal with the possibility of being down there for years guarding and protecting the silo from intruders. The one who held the high clearance has recently developed Alzheimer's VERY conveniently after going around town bragging about how the military has taken care of him for most of his adult life. When asked for proof he would whip out a credit card that no one had ever seen before and go on about how the military per the government bought him his house and land and that he was allowed to buy ANYTHING he wanted with that credit card with no questions asked. When my husband asked him why would the gov. allow you to do this he explained that his clearance no longer exists and he is one of only 2 men who hold it because he installed the electronics in the silo's (all of them) and that the military could call him into service at any point in his life as long as he had his faculties. He told my husband that he was willing to do this for the military because he believed in protecting America and SIGNED the paperwork that made this legal. My own dad got recalled after 10 years out of the military due to major bullshit. He had been medically discharged due to a damaged back and it had been 10 years that he had been out fighting like crazy for his benefits and after 2 back surgeries. THEY decided he had not been medically unfit for duty and MADE him go back in. We moved to Norfolk Virginia for one full summer and my dad then sent us back to New Mexico while he continued to fight his reinstatement to the military. It took him 4 or 5 years but he finally won and came back home.
You are correct AC, there are some "Specialty" tracts within any branch that have longer than normal recalls (EOD, Nuke Techs, etc..). Military Police/ Security Forces is not one of them, OP is making crap up and he knows it...
My wife just got done reading an email she got from her cousin. He is a sheriffs deputy in Michigan. After 21 years of of being out of the military he has received word from the Navy that he is required to return to active duty immediately. He has to go for his physical tonight.
He has to be at a meeting with the Navy at 5:30 this morning and they are sending him for his physical tonight. Now I'm not trying to be an alarmist but this seems very strange to me.
My wife's cousin is 46 years old. He was an MP in the Navy, Spent the last 21 years as a Sheriff and now he is being called back to active duty. WHY?????
