New Delhi Games Spark Spread of Super Bug
The Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi this year captured international headlines, but not for its athletic contests. The Indian government hired thousands of monkeys as bodyguards for sports stars; snakes are sleeping on the apartments’ beds in the Athletes’ Village and the toilets have been declared public health hazards.

Yet, the news continues to grow more troublesome as visitors to the Commonwealth Games are placing themselves in grave danger of catching the New Delhi super bug that is highly contagious and the bacteria is multi-resistant to drugs

COMMONWEALTH GAMES HEAD FOR COLLAPSE
THE Delhi games were heading for complete meltdown yesterday after another series of disasters.
But despite filthy conditions, faulty equipment and organisation problems, the man in charge insists the Commonwealth Games are “a success”.
Incredibly, chief organiser Suresh Kalmadi is so proud of the event even wants to help run the 2012 Olympics in London. His offer has not been accepted, and came as a security device misfired and put three people in hospital, a giant scoreboard collapsed and female athletes were harassed.

THE problem-plagued Commonwealth Games has been hit by another serious safety scandal after a scoreboard at the Rugby Sevens stadium collapsed overnight, once again raising concerns about the integrity of the Delhi venues.

The latest in a long line of safety lapses occurred about 6.30pm on Thursday (1am yesterday, AEDT) -- four days before the competition starts -- when a chain supporting the $A350,000 scoreboard slipped, sending the 7.5m screen crashing to the ground.

No one was injured in the incident and Rugby Sevens competition manager Kevin Culliver said it was fortunate it "happened when no spectators were around".
