I call it - Golden Rule Agnosticism.
Pretty self explanatory. Only two things are required. The first is that you treat others as you would want to be treated yourself. In other words there is no sin unless there is harm to another - live and let live and to each his/her own. The second part is that you admit that you have no real clue about how it really works. You can believe in any deity for that matter, but as to the purpose, intent, and moral directive we all really have no clue.
If I am judged at the pearly gates and asked why I didn't follow the *insert holy document of the religion of your choice here* I plan to respond "I did not put my faith in man to recreate your wishes accurately, so I listened to the conscience you had the forethought to bestow upon me."
To those who plan on quoting verses here, I will remind you that they have become less of life lessons and more akin to shields for weak minds to hide behind when they cannot form the words to explain their reasons for believing as they do.
I'm not advocating any one religion here. What I am advocating is a simple two part system that religions should work within. Belief is not a bad thing. It should just be handled in a more academic way. After all, even the most pious person is no more enlightened with answers than the rest of us.
We all are born with questions, search our whole lives for them, then die without ever truly knowing the answers. It is an easily manipulated system that allows individuals to lecture and proclaim divine influence. It is what creates extremism and gives the worst of mankind a platform to build personal followings. The whole experience should be one of discussion, debate, and growth. Wise men know that there is wisdom in proclaiming ignorance. An ignorant man thinks there is wisdom in proclaiming to be wise.
