[quote:Anonymous Coward 1188906:MV8xMjg3NjQ0XzIxMDUxNDA3X0E5RjBBQjQ5] [quote:Anonymous Coward 1188906] Most excellent advice! What we put into our minds is more important in the long run that what we put into our bodies. The body can be purified and will expel toxins. What happens to the mind that's filled with trash and fear toxins? It's not good. My children understood this at an early age. It's of the utmost importance to be highly selective about what is fed to a young mind. Notwithstanding a reasonable dose of "reality" with the understanding of context, as a learning aid. For example.. learning at an early age the meaning of satire.. is a highly valuable discrimination tool. Understanding that the Simpson's is based on satire, and not to be taken at "face value" encourages critical, and multi-dimensional social understanding. So it's not about just feeding pablum, but filtering for authentic and meaniful content amongst the offerings in place. I highly resent being "force fed" what I consider to be inappropriate.. over public medium.. against my will.
Sorry for the tangent .. the topic was horror films, but same applies. Ghastly images produce ghastly thoughts, and nightmares. and the adrenalin rush is a poor substitute for dealing with your own emotions in life. It's some kind of diversion.. to distract.and terrorize. not healthy.
We were both horror movie junkies. I was more into the Japanese-Asian ghost stuff and she was into slasher & gore (like Hostel, Saw etc).
Recently, she told me she donated her DVD collection to another movie junkie and stop watching those films completely. When I wanted to invite her watching Saw 3D she refused and told me to stop the habit.
She said "These movies will stay in our subconscious. I realize what they did to me and they affect my life. It's damaging my spiritual growth."
She completely stopped the habit. Cold turkey. I am thinking of doing the same.
Anyone ever experience something similar? She stunned me when she said those words. I realized she has changed. And it's time that I also change. For the better.
