The temperature in a nuclear reactor will climb at low average of 0.5ºC per second under no water conditions.
Normal fission reaction temperatures for a MOX Fuel Reactor is about 480°C
Crisis begins and water fails to circulate. Meltdown clock begins when control rods melt out.
Time: 14 minutes later
Core Temp: 900°C
Fuel rods begin to deform and swell in their Zircaloy cases.
Time: 17 minutes later
Core Temp: 1,400°C
Steam and Zirconium react and create hydrogen. Around this temperature a hydrogen explosion is possible.
Time: 47 minutes later
Core Temp: 2,800°C
Uranium Oxide melts, Corium is created and drops to the reactor vessel floor. Residual water will remain at the floor and flash boiled when the Corium drops. This flash boil can be strong enough to rupture the containment vessel accelerating the meltdown breach.
At this point only several minutes to many hours, but not more then 24 hours, the Corium will burn through the last barrier and spill into the open environment. Most likely soil and initial the Chinese Syndrome Theory.
This how fast a meltdown should occur. The Japanese and US governments are holding this info back. This is not voo-doo and many people understand these things. This should be on the air but is not. That tells you they are holding back. Surprised?!
