Because what I currently have in my hands, are 3 SURPLUS old school detectors, that pass the self Circuit Check, but are not worth the metal they are made out of in regards to giving me accurate readings. I will need to get them professionally re-calibrated for them to be useful. That is why I am currently utilizing the other websites for now. I think the $100 would have been more wisely put towards a more expensive modern detector that actually be of some use to me.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I talked my husband out of these because I did not think they would be accurate. Still looking for a reasonably priced detector, but I have been for the last few years and have not been able to find anything I'm willing to purchase yet.
If you do pick up the old school detector for a good price, it can be re-calibrated for $78.
Original Message
Just got this instrument today.
I followed all the instructions.
My current location is about 3 miles off of the coast, South Bay, CA area.
I do NOT know if this instrument is calibrated properly?
I zeroed it, and did a circuit check per instructions.
It is currently reading 2.2 r/hr on the X1 setting.
Any comments would be appreciated by people in the know.
Thanks.
