Your readings are well over three times as bad as what was seen in fukushima at its peak.  3 r/hour would make a person seriously ill if exposed for a day or so. longer and it could be fatal. Actually the only difference is that one is actual level and the other is the absorbed amount.  So,  they could be the same as long as the radiation was absorbed.

Original Message Just got this instrument today.

I followed all the instructions.

My current location is about 3 miles off of the coast, South Bay, CA area.

I do NOT know if this instrument is calibrated properly?

I zeroed it, and did a circuit check per instructions.

It is currently reading 2.2 r/hr on the X1 setting.

Any comments would be appreciated by people in the know.
