Hey, you really have something good here. If a person has 100 oz of sterling they have 92.5 oz of silver every time. Put 100 oz lots up for bid and add "92.5 oz of pure silver" in the title and work that sale! The larger the lot, the bigger your profit. At 200 oz you are at over $7500 which brings ebay and paypal fees down to 5 or 6% combined.
the knife blades are rarely 92.5 sterling...
Yes, I realize there is variation. Old world coins vary greatly too, one just needs to divy it up and label it correctly.
I’m done accumulating silver for now, so I thought I’d let you guys know how I have been buying silver for less than spot.
STERLING SILVER FLATWARE
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (typically copper).
On eBay, sterling silver flatware auctions are often won at a price less than spot. Bidding activity has increased in the last weak, now that silver has had its itsy-bitsy pullback, so it will sell closer to spot, if not at spot. But when silver takes a dip, the bidding activity decreases and that is when you can pick up silver very easily at less than spot.
To put this in perspective, a Silver Eagle at APMEX is currently selling for $42.65 for quantities less than 20. The spot price is around $37.15. This calculates to 15% over spot and that is not counting the S&H premium APMEX charges.
