The Dept of insurance for the state of Missouri is receiving hundreds of property claims on dry wells. The subsoil water line is dying anywhere from 30 to 90 ', and is expected to increse exponentially over the next three weeks. 7,000 to 10'000 wells are expected to die (horrible term they use)shortly, and wells near thre river basins will see problems soon. This is somewhat unprecedented because they aren't sure how to handle it. This drought continues and things you can't foresee will become everyday occurances. I had a farmer tell me , damned indians saw this coming. Some can see whats happening, most have no idea, they are in deep trouble!
did your letter say 10,000 wells expected to dry or is that your guess. how are things in your neck of the woods, and how is this year compared to last. I am on the east coast, and we have had some record breaking heat, but last few weeks temps are in the normal range for this time of year.
No thats what the letter said, different types of wells agriculture based, irrigation wells, and now farm houses, but that number was for Mo., Kansas, and Arkansas. These numbers are expected to jump by next week. This is the worst drought, and hottest summer on record for Mo.It started last july with 100 deg. temps, had no winter moisture and the soil line didn't get below freezing. We had 80 and 2 90 deg. days in March this year. They are looking at 30 year old trees dying this week and the ages will steadily go up over the next few weeks. You look out over the lake of the ozarks tree line and it is fall in some areas. We're seeing cases of bacterial leaf scorch on large oaks, which is predominantly fatal, and very rare. I honestly could go one for ever, but i'll save the rest for another day.
Thanks for that.
