Our magnetosphere is being 'squished' to protect our borders,drawing in magnetically. We've got nothing coming in at this point, but when the Bz goes south, we are open for any incoming energy. Since we have several arcing sunspots our energy particle level is high even without a strong solar wind. If we would have any type of moderate sun activity right now and our Bz stayed south we'd have problems. Now the polarity can flip depending on the region the suns energy is coming from and its polarity. Yesterday we were - but the incoming energies polarity was favorable and our Bz went north.

When your ground level magnetism becomes this weak(below 50), you enter an increased seismic zone,although some beg to differ(won't get into that), getting close to 0 and you're going to see a big pressure increase on weak plate unions, shear pressure will develop and you've got problems.This is not looking good.
