The horse racing world was in shock today after a leading U.S. jockey who rode at this year's Kentucky Derby was mysteriously found dead in his car.
Michael Baze, 24, was discovered slumped inside his vehicle at the stable area of the track at Churchill Downs, where the famous derby is staged, on Tuesday afternoon.
The promising young jockey is believed to have been lain inside the vehicle all morning before emergency services were alerted. He was pronounced dead just before 5pm.
Police launched an investigation into the incident but foul play has so far been ruled ou
t. Louisville police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said an autopsy was now planned to establish how Baze died.
