Original Message I've read and heard people use the word "anymore" in a sentence that contradicts how I've known this word to be used.

For instance, I have always understood "anymore" to be the opposite of "evermore", or a close relative of "nevermore"; as in it doesn't happen any longer.

But more and more people have been using it exactly the opposite lately. For instance:

Proper --> I can't handle this anymore.
Improper --> The world is a scary place anymore.

How do you use the word "anymore", and why the sudden improper usage?
