I praise those who planned ahead and saved up their own money as to not be a burden on taxpayers and those who find a way to contribute to society. Those who made no plans and simply leech off the system need to learn the hard way about not investing in their future. Being old in itself is not a virtue and we owe nothing to the aged simply because they are older than we are.

Those that saved up?  And saw their savings evaporate in two stock market crashes?  Who saw the house they worked for all their lives decline in value so much they can't even sell it so they can move into a one bedroom apartment to save money on the utilities and maintenance?

Yeah, some lucky old farts ended up retiring with golden parachutes but a lot of people who worked hard all their lives got the shaft.

We need a social safety net.  We just don't need people who don't want to pay a dime in all their lives and then try to collect to the max when they get old.

I have many, many times...Investments can be pieces of land ahead of a developing community...precious metals, I bought a 10 year CD at 7% just before the economy started to collapse, they nearly cried when I cashed it in...I buy savings bonds, real estate, rare coins, stamps...the list is endless...

Original Message Old people are always looking for a free hand out. From Medicare to Social Security and every other free ticket social service out there, the elderly are a bunch of free loaders. Why should my taxes pay for their free health care and pill popping habits when all they do is lounge around watching Wheel Of Fortune and hang out all day on their porches? Old people need to get a job like everyone else and stop expecting everyone else to pay their bills!
