Oops, just twelve here. Yes, Jesus was the greatest equalizer between men and women that the world had ever seen. He loved them equally. Women followed him and supported Him and the Apostles. All other religious organizations in that time and even now looked upon women as a lesser being. 
Jesus allowed them to sit at His feet and hear His messages of God's Kingdom. He loved them, but there are only twelve Apostles.

•The apostles began as disciples (Matthew 10:1). There were far fewer apostles than disciples - all apostles were disciples, but not all disciples became apostles.

Whenever you read men in the New Testament you can include women which is the Greek meaning of men - all men (all humnkind, both men and women)

Original Message If women are equal to men mentally, and spiritually, then why did not Jesus have 12 female apostles. Well, the truth is He did, even though few have heard about it. For they were faithful to HIM and never left him and witnessed for HIM and did an amzing job in spreading His message of love before the old patriarchical system took over once again.
