[quote:Anonymous Coward 1110734:MV8xNTg3OTA4XzM0NjE3OTMxX0I4MzZGOEIz] Helpful Herbs when the SHTF: Yarrow or I gotta get this fever down! A high fever is scary. The body is fighting infections and releases chemicals and increases blood pressure to increase temperature. As it increases, there's a danger that the temperature could get too high and harm the brain. I've seen very high temperatures in children, and this shouldn't surprise anyone for children have a harder time controlling their body temperature, particularly in Summer. It's why they get heat stroke easier. Yarrow is one of the finest ways to get that temperature back down and quickly. It has a very good reputation for this property. Nice lady making these videos. http://www.motherearthliving.com/health-and-wellness/common-yarrow-uses.aspx See this link for a clever way to use yarrow for a little one who can't take tea: http://www.learningherbs.com/herbs_for_fever.html It's also a great item to staunch bleeding rapidly. I know I've talked about other herbs that do this, but a good prepper will learn many herbs in case you run out or the herb you need is not in season. You also must know many herbs in case you need to trade for them, and by knowing their value, you know how much to trade in your own goods for them. Note: Use cold water whenever you can if it's dangerously high. It might be unpleasant to them, but you're trying to save their lives. I've helped someone with a scary temperature quickly stop that fever merely by immersing them in a bath of cold water. Then you must sit with them through the night and make certain that it doesn't return and that you don't have to take other measures or repeat the water bath as needed.
There are many free homeschooling sites with pdf files. It would be great to have them just in case there are issues.
Get medications that your kids need. See if your doctor will prescribe 3 months supplies for them.
Get some presents tomorrow for Christmas. Little gifts that you could give out not only then, but throughout the year as incentives. They'll really appreciate them.
Children can thrive in the woods as long as they have calm parents. They cannot keep up with your pace up and down tails. You've got to plan adequately if you do have to walk some.
Kids are used to incorrectly using a backpack since kids at school wear them in the wrong fashion, which adds too much stress to their lower back. You'll have to reteach them how to buckle it properly and position it higher than they used to wearing it.
Try to make gathering wood into a game. Teach them as much about nature as possible. Being quiet is as important as talking.
Kids love open fires. Tell stories. It can simply be times when they did wonderful things when they were younger. They love hearing how much you love and adore them. Even teens.
Hug and kiss them often. Be generous with your affection. Lavish it on them
