[quote:Anonymous Coward 1110734:MV8xNTg3OTA4XzM0NjY1ODg3X0FCNEFGQUUx] Jugged Meat If you'd lived in medieval time up until the early 20th Century, it was difficult to preserve meat. One method to use when without flour as a thickener and without salt to cure it, was to jug the meat. The liver of the animal was pounded to produce a thicker and not waste anything, and the animal was stewed in an earthenware (clay) pot in its own blood to utilize the salt. Naturally the liver is full of blood as well since it filters it. The earthenware pot was placed in a water bath inside a pan and this preserved the flavors and combined baking with steaming and cooking. While squeamish folks might find such think extremely strange, it was a common dish, for it meant you could keep the meat a bit longer from the added salt. In England, a common dish was Jugged Hare. A hare is a jackrabbit and it has dark meat versus a rabbit whose flesh is often like chicken. Here's a modern recipe for it: http://honest-food.net/2008/12/30/classic-civet-of-hare/ Here's a tradition recipe hare royale which is similar: http://books.google.com/books?id=ZAM3TJfP09cC&pg=PA296&dq=jugged+hare+traditional+recipe&hl=en&sa=X&ei=VP2uUI_bG4Ho8gS_moGABQ&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=jugged%20hare%20traditional%20recipe&f=false A pretty close to traditional recipe: http://www.blackface.co.uk/recipes_detail.asp?recipeID=50 [/quote]
There are many free homeschooling sites with pdf files. It would be great to have them just in case there are issues.
Get medications that your kids need. See if your doctor will prescribe 3 months supplies for them.
Get some presents tomorrow for Christmas. Little gifts that you could give out not only then, but throughout the year as incentives. They'll really appreciate them.
Children can thrive in the woods as long as they have calm parents. They cannot keep up with your pace up and down tails. You've got to plan adequately if you do have to walk some.
Kids are used to incorrectly using a backpack since kids at school wear them in the wrong fashion, which adds too much stress to their lower back. You'll have to reteach them how to buckle it properly and position it higher than they used to wearing it.
Try to make gathering wood into a game. Teach them as much about nature as possible. Being quiet is as important as talking.
Kids love open fires. Tell stories. It can simply be times when they did wonderful things when they were younger. They love hearing how much you love and adore them. Even teens.
Hug and kiss them often. Be generous with your affection. Lavish it on them
