[quote:Don'tBeAfraid:MV8xNTg3OTA4XzM1ODE1NDY2XzY1ODlBODQ5] Much of this post was written in a way to help parents as well as single parents to understand some history of dating: http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message2070810/pg12#35815280 If you fit into that category, or there's a potential of becoming a parent, then you should read it too. It details what happened in 1920 and why we need to open our eyes to human behavior regarding dating. Post-collapse survivors will likely include young people and there's no doubt that a radical shift will occur regarding the ending of "dating" and a return to something akin to those mature young people aged 15-17 marrying again as they did in history. As such, a parent will need to teach them very important skills for they won't be around to protect them as we do today. They'll run off... if afraid of your wrath at them falling in love with a local person amidst the collapse. Instead, you're going to have to do a mind-shift and help them instead, most likely as your ancestors did by allowing them to "marry" through a local ceremony and living with you. Because a preacher or pastor may not be around, YOU may be the one marrying them before God. This is typical tribal behavior. Think of them trying to live alone some how by themselves with no tools, no supplies in a very scary world. In the absence of birth control in a post-collapse world, in the absence of obstetricians and gynecologists and the rarity of physicians, YOU will be delivering babies, and most likely helping your children. Moms, that likely will be YOU teaching them the natural birth control I previously discussed using the mucus, basal temperature, and rhythm method. You have to know it completely, for a young Lady having a child at 16 or younger is a scary delivery in the absence of medicines, equipment, and trained personnel. [/quote]

There are many free homeschooling sites with pdf files. It would be great to have them just in case there are issues.
Get medications that your kids need. See if your doctor will prescribe 3 months supplies for them.
Get some presents tomorrow for Christmas. Little gifts that you could give out not only then, but throughout the year as incentives. They'll really appreciate them.
Children can thrive in the woods as long as they have calm parents. They cannot keep up with your pace up and down tails. You've got to plan adequately if you do have to walk some.
Kids are used to incorrectly using a backpack since kids at school wear them in the wrong fashion, which adds too much stress to their lower back. You'll have to reteach them how to buckle it properly and position it higher than they used to wearing it.
Try to make gathering wood into a game. Teach them as much about nature as possible. Being quiet is as important as talking.
Kids love open fires. Tell stories. It can simply be times when they did wonderful things when they were younger. They love hearing how much you love and adore them. Even teens.
Hug and kiss them often. Be generous with your affection. Lavish it on them
