Original Message ARVADA - Two people want to know why officials waited almost five months to alert the public about a salmonella outbreak involving ground turkey.

Steve Starzenski and Lynda Black say the delay cost them dearly, when their pet Laney died after eating tainted turkey.

The Centers for Disease Control says 107 people nationwide have gotten sick from eating salmonella contaminated ground turkey. One person in California has died. Cargill voluntarily recalled 36 million pounds of ground turkey on August 3, almost 5 months after the first signs of a salmonella outbreak. It is the third-largest meat recall in history.
