You guys have done a great job in my absence. Hierro is a time bomb, as is the entire archipelago. I think we're probably fortunate that Hierro has been the target of all this acivity instead of one of the most unstable islands like La Palma. Hierro has shown her strength.
What makes think La Palma is unstable? My opinion is tha we are exaggerating and focusing on the worst case scenario. I have posted this before but will do it again so we see another (maybe more realistic) view on this: http://www.lapalma-tsunami.com/tudelft.html Please keep it scientific, I don´t say it can´t happen but would rather focus on what is more likely to happen.
type 'Slope stability in the Canary volcanoes based on geotechnical criteria' into Google and click 'quick view' on the first link shown. there are THREE threats in the Canaries. La Palma, El Hierro, and Tenerife volcanic activity under any of them CAN induce a catastrophic slide, and there is activity under or close to two of them at the moment, Tenerife and El Hierro btw, that link you posted is NOTHING but a hit piece. yes, it's good to see all sides of an argument, but choosing one side over another is silly. i'm undecided about the ocean basin mega tsunami potential of a slide, but one thing's for certain, it'll be devastating locally, and that in itself would be very VERY bad!
Again I am not saying it cannot happen, I am not taking sides but I only say you focus on the worst case scenario. And that IS taking side.. It is very unlikely to happen and this whole happening has more interesting sides than some doom scenario.
Show me how we have not looked at "EVERY SIDE". Nobody is shouting DOOM DOOM DOOM
You have not looked at every side. Whenever anyone disagrees with the tsunami theory they are jumped on, whenever anyone disagrees with you they are either banned from your thread or jumped on for having a differing opinion, I have even seen you rant at someone for questioning you even when they showed you evidence from Geologists to back up their side of the argument, I also witnessed you telling a poster you reported them to the Mods because they questioned you. Of course those posts are now gone because you deleted them before changing your username. I agree with the above poster, this is a very biased thread and you ARE pushing a doomy agenda.
You are truly crazy. You know that? Either you're crazy, or you're just a liar. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here and I'll just call you crazy.
Oh, I'm crazy? Which part is a lie ? Anyone who religiously follows this thread knows what I said IS the truth. I will have a look through the thread tomorrow when I get a chance and quote what I can to prove I am right, if you haven't deleted it all ... even the picture of the conversation between the person you belittled and AVCAN who said that you were wrong ( Canaries affecting Iceland ... remember ? ). Don't call me a liar you hypocrite.
INFACT, fyi, AVCAN did NOT say that Idgits was wrong about there being a connection between Iceland and the Canary Islands... The said page with conversations you are looking are on page 263... On that page, there is a link to a screenshot of the conversation with AVCAN by 2 members of AVCAN that states more studies & research is needed..they say they can't say if it is true or not until they have the data that proves if there is a connection or not...Like I said, They don't say that Idgits is WRONG... I can't link to the screenshot as the site hosting the image has recently been banned from GLP, the link however is still there on page 263, check it out yourself... Before sprouting your mouth out, I suggest you go through the thread first and get your facts right before saying things that are simply NOT true.. The proof is on page 263, a tiny*pic link, go see for yourself...If you still want to believe that your right that Avcan said that Idgits was wrong, prove it to me....but you won't be able to as they didn't say that... Over 40 quakes were reported on Hierro alone yesterday, many with very shallow depths. 3.8 hit just North of Tenerife as well, bringing curiosity to the region...what's next?

So...they are totally dismayed as to how these rocks could be so full of radiation? Humm...let's try this explanation!
Thread: OLD NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP SITE OFF EL HIERRO! OMG!
The United States used to use the coastal waters of El Hierro as a nuclear dumping ground. The idea that our nuclear waste has been drawn into the subversion plates, burnt down into the magma and then redistributed through El Hierro's underwater eruption is quite a possible scenario!
''
These eruptions are commonly phreatomagmatic eruptions, representing violent explosions caused by rising basaltic or andesitic magma coming into contact with abundant, shallow groundwater or surface water.
