[quote:DonHeau:MV8xNjE4NjIxXzI2NzMyMzUzXzlFMzQ5N0Y5] Did you know that you can dial with 'flash/clicks' on a rotary phone? You use the 'hang up' button to flash or click the number. So to dial 911 is 9clicks, 1click, 1click. Works for dialing long numbers too. To dial operator is 10click. My house still has the original ringer box from the 1920 'candlestick' phone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candlestick_telephone [/quote]

I dug out an old Starlite desk phone that was originally thrown away in a garbage dump, opened it up, replaced the original connecting cord with a modern phone cord with a plug for a phone jack, oiled the rotary mechanism to make it work smoothly, cleaned up the outside, plugged it in and it worked like a charm.
The phone company's system still recognizes the clicks made by the phone to dial the number.
There's something natural about using a rotary phone than all that artificial push button and texting crap that eventually gives you ADD(Attention Deficit Disorder). With a rotary dial, you actually have to think and concentrate when dialing the number so you don't screw up and have to redial.
