[quote:LifeInDeath:MV8xNjI0Njg0XzI2ODMyODA1XzE1N0U5NDVE] A part of what made the Borg such a popular Trek villain is the thought in the back of every fan's mind - those who are pretty wise and experienced either with Trek or scifi in general - "there but the grace of God goes humanity." With enough technology, we could well become the Borg if we're not careful. Once things like cybernetic additions and modifications become a true possibility and plugging computers into human brains become possible, what's to stop some evil genius hacker, or evil genius corporation or evil government from turning the population into such a thing? Maybe that's how the Borg Queen started out? Maybe she was the genius hacker or evil head of state who first turned her population into those things, though originally at a much lower tech level, probably? Now she clones herself and downloads her memories and experiences into new bodies as needed. She seems to exist in multiple places, on multiple Borg ships at once. Many clones of her, all linked in a parallel collective as one mind that acts as a controller to the larger, outer collective. It would be a terrible thing, but it also presents a terrifying possibility of where we could be headed. [/quote]

What do people here on GLP think of the BORG? Intellectually, philosophically, culturally.
The BORG are a cybernetic beings linked a to Hive Mind. People in the galaxy are forcibly linked to this Hive Mind.
Tiny nanobots are released into the blood stream. This preps the victim for assimilation. Cybernetic parts are added to the victim; included is a device which links their mind to the Collective.
What do people think of this? What is your view of the BORG?
