Original Message NORTH Queenslanders have been rocked by the third earthquake in six months after a 4.1 magnitude quake struck south-west of Bowen yesterday.

Residents as far north as Ayr could feel the early morning tremor which sent shockwaves throughout the region about 2.30am.

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Mike Brunker said the tremors were followed by a thunderous roar.

"The sliding doors in my bedroom began to shake on their runners and then there was a loud rumbling kind of like an explosion," he said.

Okay a mag 4 doesn't sound like much to be worried about, but we just don't get earthquakes in this region and the rumbling noise is unheard of.
