September 19, 2011 CENTRAL AMERICA A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck the country of Guatemala at a depth of 39.4 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was 53 km (32 miles) SE of GUATEMALA, Guatemala , 74 km (45 miles) WNW of Santa Ana, El Salvador and 1114 km (692 miles) ESE of MEXICO CITY, D.F., Mexico. The 5.8 magnitude earthquake was preceded by a 4.8 foreshock which struck at a depth of 61 km. The Guatemala earthquake is the latest in an escalating series of earthquakes that have rattled nearly every corner of the globe in the month of September.
