Original Message Don't have any money to buy expensive licenses to all the necessary programs? Well this is the thread for you!

There are loads of good and free programs around the internets, so here we go!

Antivirus:

Avira antivirus personal
[link to www.avira.com]

I have been using this for many years now and haven't had any viruses since i started using this.

Firewall:

Comodo Firewall
[link to personalfirewall.comodo.com]

This is also one program that i have been using for years. Very good firewall. Only downside is that the UI is pretty hard to learn and some options are hard to find.

AntiMalware:

Spybot Search & Destroy
[link to www.safer-networking.org]

Very good for getting rid of those nasty buggers from your computer. Fast and reliable.

Those are the necessary programs if you are running windows. sure there are other free antivirus and firewall programs, but i don't want to link to programs that i don't know. If someone wants to contribute and suggest any other programs, then feel free to do so.

now for some not so important, but helpful programs to ease your life in the digital world.

Opera Internet Browser
[link to www.opera.com]

Best browser in my mind. Been using this since 2001.
It's fast and has many good features.

Firefox Browser
[link to www.mozilla.org]

Pretty good browser also. If you don't like opera, then give this a try. I use this every now and then.

Mozilla Thunderbird
[link to www.mozilla.org]

Powerful email program with good features. Supports hotmail, gmail and such.

VLC media player
[link to www.videolan.org]

Damn good player. Has loads of codecs built in so it supports almost every filetype in there.

7Zip
[link to www.7-zip.org]

Very good program for compressing and decompressing packed files.

Open office
[link to www.openoffice.org]

Good alternative for Micro$oft Office. Supports many filetypes and is easy to use. I have been using this for some time now.

Foxit reader
[link to www.foxitsoftware.com]

Very good and fast PDF reader. Good alternative for Adobes memory hog.

GIMP. GNU Image Manipulation Program
[link to www.gimp.org]

Basic program for editing images. Bit confusing first but you get used to it.

FileZilla
[link to filezilla-project.org]
GUI for your FTP site. Allows drag and drop.
Very good program. updates frequently and is easy to use
(Thanks AC 1492057)

ImgBurn
[link to www.imgburn.com]

Program to write stuff to cd/dvd/bluray... very good and very small.

Foobar2000
[link to www.foobar2000.org]

Light weight music player
"It doesn't need many resources and you can customize it. No senseless integration into stupid web services by default. Excellent alternative to WMP or shitty WinAmp."
(Thanks to AC 1246559)

That's it for now. will update if something else comes to mind.

Feel free to contribute and post your own suggestions.

Peace!
