Everyone should get a copy also, of the "Barefoot Doctor's Manual"  what chinese doctors use when going into the poorest, most remote villages to care for hurt and sick...excellent ideas in there, on how to use what is at hand for medical care.

That calls for knowledge of how to do the basics. I highly recommend the foxfire series of books. Everything from fence making, food storage, to soap making.

Speaking of soap, how long till you run out if TSHTF?

Yes, most soap makers do just that. But in a shtf scenario with no electricity and no stores what then? How did our ancestors do this?

It's simple really. Lye comes from ashes. Water is combined or poured over coals and ashes creating lye, which is very caustic btw.

Fat from any fatty animal is boiled down (rendered), to similar temp of lye. Melted fat is combined with lye.. Detailed instuctions here: [link to www.grandpappy.info]

Usually takes a few days to firm up enough to cut.

crazy lady rendering fat (melting fat), which she bought 4 lbs of from a kill house.

oh and if you want it scented, buy a few bottles of essential oils or fragrance oils. Essentials are very concentrated. If you want to be fancy, add some dye.
