[quote:Snickrot:MV8xNzA0MjAwXzI4MTY3NjEyX0Y4MkEyRDY3] [quote:Old Coot:MV8xNzA0MjAwXzI4MTY2NzU5X0IyRUEzQ0I5] Wait until it's closer to Thanksgiving to purchase your turkey. The stores will offer special prices. Also, if you have a big family don't purchase a turkey less than 15 lbs. You have to figure 10 lbs of the turkey is going to be waste/bones. Butterball turkeys (more breast) will probably be the most expensive. Buy a Reynolds Turkey Baking Bag. Makes the turkey incredibly moist and cuts the baking time in half or more and you won't have to baste the bird everyone half hour or so. I have used these Turkey Baking Bags for years and they do a really great job. The bag will hold a turkey up to 25 pounds. Turkeys are going for $.89-$1.00/lbs. here in Colorado. Op's thread has some very good ideas. Bon Appetite, everyone. The Cootess
I waited for the after thanksgiving turkey sale last year and it never happened. They kept the price of the turkey constant up until a month ago when they raised the prices. It sucks.
I listed this out to encourage those who have less money to work with this year to go ahead and provide a holiday family meal to the best of their ability anyway.
