BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - People are lining up to receive heating assistance for this winter, Wednesday. The line at HEAP was a half-mile long at one point Wednesday morning, some people lining up at 6 a.m.
By the end of Wednesday, there may be more than 1,000 applicants processed in Buffalo.
The line is longer than usual. Why? Because there has been a drastic cutback in the federal funds for the HEAP program this year.
After the demonstration outside of HEAP, demonstrators marched to the National Fuel offices on Main Street.
A coalition of 20 groups called the National Fuel Accountability Coalition chanted in front of National Fuel, Wednesday. The groups are protesting because federal money for HEAP is being cutback, while the CEO for National Fuel is making $3,500 an hour.
