Original Message Residents of Hazard, KY report seeing a fireball in the sky, followed by an explosion, and their houses shaking.

Search crews combed the area for hours looking for a possible plane crash, and found no debris.

Now there is a coal seam fire in an abandoned mines in the area. Officials from the department of Abandoned Mine Lands say the fire could not have caused an explosion, fireball, or a house to shake.

Coal seam fires are -always- started by a secondary source above the surface.
