Original Message I stumbled across some interesting data that seems to suggest there may have been a tribe of mysterious very tall golden haired Indians who once occupied the Channel Islands in prehistoric to historic times.

The Ogden Standard-Examiner, Nov. 10, 1929 printed a story on the amazing discovery of "White Indians" unearthed by Prof. Ralph A. Glidden (from the Museum of the American Indian, NY) at Santa Catalina Island, California.

The above story reported that at the excavation site near Avalon, Prof. Glidden unearthed the skeleton of a man who measured 7-feet-8-inches long, and had a spear point imbedded in his chest. Above his burial were the remains of 64 children. The article continues, and says some of the skeletons found had blonde hair still adhering to the skull.

The article continues:

"During the Expedition to the interior of Catalina Professor Glidden collected the skeletons of 3,781 Indians. The largest he found was of a man 9 feet 2 inches tall. Practically all of the male adults were of gigantic stature, averaging around 7 feet in height."

There are numerous other news paper stories printed in the LA Times, and San Diego Union which document tall skeletons found in and around the Coast of California. In 1959, the skeletons of 7,000 year old 7 to 8 ft tall giant Indians were excavated at Santa Rosa Island:

Apparently the early Spannish explorers described the inhabitants of Santa Catalina Island as "well featured, and well built, of good countenance and eyes and modest in their looks and behavior. The boys and girls are white and blonde, and all are affable and smiling." Vizcaino described the Indians there as white complexioned and pleasant-looking." - (Women and the Conquest of California, 1542-1840: Codes of Silence By Virginia M. Bouvier, The University of Arizona Press, 2004.)

I find these stories of blonde haired Indians equally as interesting as the account of the red haired giants of Nevada and California, the Si-Te-Cah who were said to be exterminated by the Paiutes not too many moons before the Europeans arrived.

With discoveries like "Kennewick man" and "Spirit Cave man" now calling into question the conventional views of the first Americans, I suspect there was far more diversity among the tribes and nations who settled this land many thousands of years ago than any univeristy or institution is currently willing to admit.

Clearly if Prof. Glidden excavated over 3,000 skeletons on Catalina Island alone, the Smithsonian and many other museums and Universities must have their remains, unless they re-buried them all.
