Original Message AUSTRALIA will adopt a European ban on Iranian oil in a sign of opposition against the Islamic republic's unacceptable nuclear program, Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd says.
The European Union's 27 foreign ministers, meeting yesterday in Brussels, imposed an oil embargo against Iran and froze the assets of its central bank, ramping up sanctions designed to pressure Iranian officials into resuming talks on the country's nuclear program.
Speaking in London today where he and Defence Minister Stephen Smith have been involved in Australia-UK Ministerial (AUKMIN) Consultations, Mr Rudd said Australia will follow the EU's lead.
