Not a Compact. So your choice is a G17, G22 or G21 These are 9mm .40 and .45 caliber 9mm and .40 guns are the same size and the .45 is slightly bigger. If you are a big guy get a .45 Its the heaviest but has the best stopping power. .40 cal is nice but the ammo is more expensive then 9mm. You could get a G22 .40 cal and put a 9mm Conversion Barrel in it to shoot 9mm for target practice. Then go back to the .40 cal for defense rounds.
sound advice thanks. I'm not a big guy at all. 5'6.5 and small hands. Is there any realistic risk of a 9mm round not stopping someone compared to a .40?
That's what 15 round clips were made for. By the way, if you are not a big guy, with big hands, get yourself the Glock 19. It's the more compact version of the 17, and holds 15 rounds.
Thanks
I'm going to be buying a handgun in about a month, maybe two. I haven't handled a weapon in almost 20 years and the ones I did were hunting rifles when I was young.
I want something low maintenance, slide-in clip, uber reliable and low recoil. I'm willing to spend extra to get something quality, but I'm not looking for extravagent. Mostly I'm not cheap but don't want to waste money on the unnecessary either. Just something practical with stopping power.
Something that won't blow out ear drums would be nice too.
Any suggestions, links?
