A Different Kind of Truth is a remarkable return to the band's good old days. The David Lee Roth-led Van Halen has always had a lot of swing in their sound and it's back on this album on songs like "She's the Woman," the supercharged swing of "Honeybabysweetiedoll," and the "Ice Cream Man" throwback "Stay Frosty." There are also plenty of fret-melting guitar romps like "Bullethead," and "Outta Space," where Eddie Van Halen proves he still has the chops of a guitar legend. "As Is," the heaviest track on the album has Wolfgang Van Halen's bass out front a bit more, and the Van Halen boys sound near telepathic in their tightness...." [/quote]

Honestly, I didn't think they could pull it off. Of course, Eddie and Alex can always deliver the music goods, and it's clear Wolfie can too, but DLR was the wildcard. While his upper register is much weaker, he somehow manages to smoke the lyrics on many songs. Eddie is truly legendary on guitar. Legendary. The guy hasn't lost a thing and has even managed to push the sound envelope even further.
Good stuff people. I'm pleasantly surprised. They just came into #2 on the Billboard chart behind Adele. If you thought true Rock and Roll was dead, uhh...Van Halen just singlehandedly resurrected it from the grave with this outing.
