Original Message A California woman has died and another resident is sick after coming down with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare and fatal condition that swiftly destroys the brain.

The Marin County Department of Public Health is investigating the two cases, which are thought to be unrelated.

This is an absolutely horrible way to go. Prions are not a bacteria, nor virus, but rather a protein crystal formation that causes your neurologic tissue to crystalize. Always fatal. It is very rare, and unusual to have 2 cases in the same county at the same time.
