According to Tokyo Ash Advisory Center, a plume is visible on Landsat imagery reaching flight level 270 (27,000 ft / around 9 km altitude) and extends 136 mi (220 km) to the north-east from the volcano. 
KVERT reports that the "strong explosive eruption began about 21:27 UTC on March 08 and continues." Ash fall started to occur at Ust'-Kamchatsk Village from 01:30 UTC om March 09, and continues at present.
