The FBI and NYPD are investigating threatening letters that claim to contain dangerous pathogens sent to media companies and U.S. senators, law enforcement officials tell NBC New York.

The letters, which are believed to have been mailed from Oregon, contained threats claiming 10 percent of the envelopes contain dangerous pathogens.

The writer claims the letters have been sent to every senator on Capitol Hill and numerous news and entertainment shows.
