Do you think it is not evil to push God to the limit?
No it is not evil to push G_d. Did not Abraham intercede for Sodom, pushing HaShem little by little in hopes of saving Sodom. Didn't HaShem honor Abraham request each time he asked, and wasn't Abraham a little worried about maybe pushing HaShem to the limit and stopped short of going all the way? Gen 37:20-33 [quote:Anonymous Coward 1194370:MV8xODEyNTQ5XzMwMjg1NDg4X0Y3NjdBRDEy] I am trying to understand how you say in your previous post that such a thing is not evil. Scripture tells us that God was/is angered by such provocations.
And which scriptures are you referring to? [quote:Anonymous Coward 1194370:MV8xODEyNTQ5XzMwMjg1NDg4X0Y3NjdBRDEy]But however one sees it. God cannot do wrong. He surely can and is enticed - but His response to such things is always right. God is righteous. He does not say and do things because they are righteous. Whatever He says and does IS righteous because it is his very nature. That is what I take away from Hebrew 4:15 and James 1:13. Sin has no place within Him. It is not found in The Father nor is it found in The Son. God Bless. peace,
What is your definition of what sin is? :verycool:
Thanks for your reply, I recall that Abraham spoke with God and made inquiry that God might spare the city if there were found a number of righteous men within it. But I do not see Abraham 'testing' God in this exchange. I rather see it as you say, intercession. After all, his Nephew and nephews family was dwelling there. But one passage which comes to mind is found in Psalms 78, where we see a recap of the exodus and how some of them 'tested' God in the wilderness and what the result was of such 'testing'; "...And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation..." - Psalms 78:18-22 They tested God, and provoked Him, and He was angered. I believe scripture tells us that sin is transgression of the Law of God. That sin is unrighteousness. God Bless. peace,
Abraham was pushing his luck and he know it. He was testing G_d's patients. "How far can I push this?" In Psalms 78:18-22 G-d is angry because they didn't trust him after all that he had done for them. But even more so because they wanted to go back to the way things were in Egypt, fulfilling their lust for meat instead of trusting G_d to give them what they needed. There are different types of sin in Torah, even though English uses only one word. The generic Hebrew word for any kind of sin is aveira. There are various words that translate as "sin" but the three main ones you'll find in the Torah are: Pesha - An intentional sin; an action committed in deliberate defiance of G-d; Ovon - This is a sin of lust or uncontrollable emotion. It is a sin done knowingly, but not done to defy G-d; Cheit - This is a missing of the mark -- an accidental sin. A mistake. A "missing of the mark." A boo-boo if you will. The word comes from an arrow that misses its target. The result may have ramifications, but the act was not done with malice aforethought. Cain killing Able was an ovon. A WORSE sin than the one commited by Adam and Eve in the Garden. Did G-d punish all of mankind for Cain's ovon? :verycool:
