Original Message Oh, God.

I just listened to a sermon and it appears that there are several people who study the traditions of those times and they've concluded something that makes me want to throw up.

I can't post a link yet because it takes them several hours to put it up for viewing but I will if you want me to- most likely by noon or so tomorrow.

Christ spoke 6 times while hanging on the cross from 9 AM to about 3 PM.

One of those times he said he was thirsty and would someone please wet his tongue.

There are many movies that depict a soldier offering up a sponge to his mouth and most are led to believe that this was a compassionate act.

The truth is, back then when there were large gatherings (such as the one on this day) they kind of had an old equivalency of a porta-potty.

Slaves were given sponges on sticks to wipe up spills, etc.

The guard that offered Christ what he had requested simply took a sponge out of a bucket of filthy urine, etc. and held it up for him to taste.

My GOD! He did these things for ALL of us. How can there not be anything but love, respect and compassion for Jesus Christ?!

And another time he spoke, "It is finished."

Back then when you owed money to someone and were paying off the debt, the final payment was marked, "It is finished."

So when our Savior said that, he was basically saying to everyone, "Your debt has now been paid, in full."

So very sad. How many of us are even worthy of that kind of love?
