The U.S. tried to mitigate this.
To avoid an Israeli strike: 1) Iran must disassemble their Fordo nuclear plant. 2) Stop uranium enrichment capable of being upgraded to weapons' grade fuel.
With a super-summit scheduled later this week in Turkey, these two conditions are the consessions REQUIRED by the U.S. and Israel to avoid war. Today, Iran, ahead of the summit, said "Nyet" to both conditions.
Someone has to cave in and lose face this week.
Even if Obama caves in, Israel likely won't. They will go it alone, believing Iran's nuclear strategy poses an existential threat. A show of weakness from Israel will only increase their sense of peril. Netanyahu is Samson-like in his resolve.
Neither can Iran's regime afford to show weakness, especially to their own citizens, who favor an uprising. Besides, it sounds like Iran's religious leader believes the upcoming war will reveal their anointed Madhi, the 12th Imam.
The region needs a serious peace broker, a miracle worker who can somehow someway give all sides a diplomatic excuse out of this slippery slope to war. Who? Hillary Clinton?
Passover ends this week. The summit is scheduled for the end of this week. Russia, China and the U.S. are playing chess games with their ships and subs.
It's all coming down to the wire, and the situation looks desperately perilous. Some will say, Game on. Some will say, Doom on. What sayest thou?
