So what do you all think is the motivation behind the events at the University of Pittsburgh, and what it's led up to with the recent email sent to students and faculty?
Here's a couple of recent articles about the bomb threats and shooting.
"PITTSBURGH - Campus police, federal authorities, and experts are stumped by more than 20 bomb threats since mid-February that have prompted building evacuations on the University of Pittsburgh campus, caused some professors to move classes or offer them online, and led some students to stay off-campus.
Although the threats received more attention after a gunman fatally shot one person and wounded several others before he was shot dead by campus police at a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center psychiatric hospital on March 8, the string of threats actually began on Feb. 13."

"The chancellor's statement came as a new wave of threats and evacuations hit five campus buildings Friday, and hours after the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania said the string of threats is now being "vigorously, aggressively and thoroughly" investigated using all available means, including the region's Joint Terrorism Task Force."

And now this email has been sent out to all staff and students.
It reads:
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:
Let us begin by saying that we appreciate the grace and patience that each of you has shown throughout these very challenging times. We are a great University because we have dedicated and loyal members who are working together in amazing ways.
As we begin to experience escalated evacuations, we have decided to take next steps to heighten security measures on our campus. Beginning tomorrow, the University will limit access to buildings once they have been swept and cleared. Not all buildings will have limited access immediately, but over the next few days we expect this will extend to all buildings.
To enter secured buildings, we all will need to present a University of Pittsburgh ID card. It is important to understand that book bags, backpacks and packages will not be allowed. There will be single entrances to buildings so there will be longer waiting times to get into the buildings. In addition, non-University of Pittsburgh residents will not be allowed in the residence halls.
Please make sure you arrive to your building earlier than your usual arrival time to accommodate this necessary security step. We will continue to evacuate and sweep buildings when threats are received but these additional security measures will reduce the amount of time needed to clear and reopen the buildings.
We have made it through many complicated situations before. Thank you for your patience and dedication and know that we will get through this one together.
Is this just the first of many? It seems like you can go back to VA Tech and watch the progression. They started off with the shootings and have now taken the individual suspects out of the hunt. Now it's anonymous bomb threats. Locking down University's? What's next?
