Just heard about it in the local news. I'm seeing volunteers ranging from 117-870,000 participants from different sites. Largest drill in state history. Hoping this drill doesn't end like others in the past!
At 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, SUU students should be prepared to “drop, cover and hold on,” not in an actual emergency, but as part of the Utah ShakeOut earthquake drill that will be staged across the state.
In an effort to be trained for “the big earthquake” that Utahns have fretted over for years, the Utah Division of Emergency Management is staging the drill and inviting individuals and institutions across the state to participate.
Joe Dougherty, the division’s spokesman, said the drill is meant to increase “awareness and preparedness” in Utah.
“We have a great state for preparedness, ¾ of the state’s population has emergency kits and emergency plans,” he said. “This helps them to practice those plans.
