Original Message I was just in Wal-Greens and the clerk, who I know, was complaining that her full time job working for an elementary school in Florida cut her income by 3% to allegedly contribute to the retirement system. The school hasn't given a raise in 6 years and their insurance now won't cover all sorts of medical costs that it used to cover. She has a second job at Wal-Greens to help her and her 3 kids get by. She has 4 people in her family. She said a woman who is on welfare comes in frequently. This welfare woman has 3 kids. Each kid gets $300 cash on a food card every month. They get free medical care and free prescriptions. The mother on welfare is covered in gold and she has designer handbags. The mother on welfare has never had a job and is clearly . . . retired.

Two questions:

1. So, in real dollars (meaning, what you or I would have to earn to have the same benefits), how much money can a welfare family of 4 (a mother and three kids) make each month?

2. How do you and I get on this retirement plan?
